Campfires No 4 - Cape Hillsborough to Boulia

G'day all,

Well its a been a few weeks now since my last blog so thought I would do a quick update on our Making memories Trip.

After our few days at Cape Hillsborough we headed to Townville where we stayed for just over a week so we could catch up with family and friends.  We spent a little time with Butch and Ma (Tricia parents) and were lucky enough that Butch remembered how to use all his gold detecting equipment that he had previously given us. We might now be able to find gold in WA.

We had a incredible time in Townsville and an ANZAC Day catchup with some old mates of mine that I wont forget. Even if we did get fleeced in Crown & Anchor thanks Sharyn and Chris.

Great to catch up with our mate Frank

The plan was to stay a week and then leave last Saturday but that all changed as Tricia did some online bargain shopping that had not arrived as planned, so we had to wait and hope it would arrive on Monday.  The irony is that whilst Tricia saved 33% on her bargain I would have easily spent 133% more over the two extra days.

Luckily it arrived Monday morning and we were off...  This time we were excited as we were finally catching up with our travel partners for going across the top end, Judy and Len. We had organised to meet them in Winton which was a little to far for a lunchtime start so we drove for about 5 hours and stayed the night in a free camp beside the Hughenden show grounds.  There is also a man made lake across the road where you can fish, swim or even water ski and was walking distance to the local bakery where we grabbed our coffee and bread before departing the next morning.

So our next stop is Winton about another 3 - 4 hour drive on a very narrow and bumpy road.  This is where we met up with Judy and Len and we stayed at a free camping spot just outside town so we could go to the Age of Dinosaur Museum on Wednesday.  I won't do a spoiler by telling you everything about it but what I will say is that it was well worth the $78 per head to see the exhibition.  Just a couple of pics below.

Yesterday we left Winton and are now camped by a river in Boulia where we are staying until tomorrow
and then heading over the NT boarder to a place called Tobermorey.  As the Savannah way is still too wet to travel we decided will will go and see and old friend of mine and her Family who are working on this massive Cattle station.  We will spend a few days there and then head back up to Mt Isa where will then decide our next route.

We hope everyone is well and look forward to reading your comments.

  1. You have some labeled as drone footage. Were these videos? Even if not they add a totally new element to your photos.
