Well after a very long week of preparing the house and caravan we are off. Followed by Krysta, Tim, Matilda and Lachie, we started on the first leg of our 6 month Making Memories trip across Australia. Unfortunately the weather gods had not been kind and not only had it rained all week in the lead up to departing but we had heavy rain all the way to our first overnight stop at Kumbarilla Rest Area. It was so wet that Krysta and Tim and the Grand kids headed to a Hotel in Dalby for the night.
Day two was not so wet and we headed to Wallam Creek where we met up with the Shearim's (Pete & Robyn) and Francis's (Ash, Tamara, Peyton and Fletcher) who are joining us for the Easter period. The camp grounds were well maintained and set beside a little creek filled with ducks and geese.
Day three we rolled onto Farnham Plains Station just outside Eulo where we would be staying for the next four nights. We established our camp at the shearers quarters and as the sun went down were joined by our youngest daughter Stacey who had driven all day from Brisbane to join us. (about 10 hours overall)
Over the Easter break we got to explore Farnham Plains which is a 80000 acre station which is currently running cattle and goats. We attended the annual Eulo Motocycle Gymkhana which was very entertaining with kids a young as four competing and supported the Eulo community with purchases from the local Leather Craftsman and of course a couple of beers at the local Eulo Queen Hotel. A big thanks to Mick, Carmel and Loz for allowing us to stay and for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us and to young Cody who took all the kids under his wing and entertained them for us which even included a Easter Egg Hunt.
Monday morning we celebrated my birthday and then we departed for Alroy Camping Grounds with the exception of Stacey who had to return to Brissy for work. Alroy Camping grounds are located within another 60000 plus acre cattle station about and hour North west of Eulo. It is a privately owned family property run by Mac and Mary who created camp grounds along the Yowah creek where people can come and stay and experience life on a cattle station and have a bath in the hot spring baths. A cool 40+ degree's straight out of the ground. A little smelly from the Sulphur but very relaxing indeed.
Mac showed us around the property including a lookout where you get to see just how big the property is. Like Farnham because of all the rains it is lush and green all over which is a total contrast to the last time I was out here when it was in drought. To our surprise Mac returned later that evening with a pot full of cooked Yabbies that he pulled from his secret spot that only the children know where it is. I must say cold beer and Yabby....Yummy!
On Wednesday Krysta, Tim and our Grandchildren departed and started their way back to Brissy so Tim can get a few things done before he returns to FIFO. The Shearim's and Francis's were also heading off but a leak in the Francis's hot water system has meant another day here where they tried to fix it. As we had some some time Mac offered to take us pig shooting. A great afternoon enjoyed by myself, Ash and Pete.
Today Tricia and I are packing up and heading an hour up the road to the Toompine Hotel where we will stay the night before heading to Quilpie tomorrow. The water tank still has a small leak but the Shearim's and Francis' will also head off and make their way to Lightning ridge (weather pending) and all going well will be able to get the leak fixed in a town along the way.
Well that's it for this week. Just a couple of pics below to finish off. I will post another up date in a week or so.
